The Montana SP3

is the most recent upgrade of the Stereophile-recommended Montana SP (now discontinued). The SP3 offers incredible performance for the money. Utilizing two Vifa 7" midwoofers and a 1" fabric-dome ring radiator in an extremely rigid cabinet, the SP3 creates realism so profound you'll swear the musicians are in the room. Like the DPS, this loudspeaker is capable of surprising bass performance thanks to the unique approach of subdividing the internal volume into a pseudo-sealed box and a truly vented one. The SP3's crossover network features metalized polypropylene capacitors for superb transparency in the upper octaves.

The SP3's ability to generate a huge acoustic image is at odds with its small footprint--barely more than one square foot. Standing slightly over three and one-half feet tall, this speaker is as visually subtle as it is sonically commanding. Robust construction contributes to its 90 lb. weight. Frequency response is 35Hz-30kHz; sensitivity is 90dB. The SP3 is compatible with a wide variety of amplifiers, from modestly powered tube amps to heavyweight solid-state designs; recommended minimum amplifier power is 10 watts per channel.
